Reflection
I can honestly say that I have never been in a study group this great before. This study group was initially created to split-up readings for the 2 classes that we are enrolled in. At first, approximately 15 students were joining our meetings. By week 5, we had the current 10 members that meet now. We do not all show up to every session simultaneously. Yet, I have had the pleasure of getting to know my group members far better than I have gotten know most of my classmates ever before.
Los Pebles De Fullerton, or Los Pebles, has taken the role of a counter-space for us. We have discussed so many of the concepts we learned in our readings and applied them to our lives. Chief among these was Yosso's cultural strengths. We discussed how so many of the childhood peculiarities that we considered mundane or embarrassing are actually assets that we bring into our careers. Some of my classmates have the quality of being very open and are willing to be vulnerable to the rest of us. Those are characteristics that I wish to improve in myself. I did make an effort to be more expressive and open about my experiences. Yet, I don't believe I have been earnest enough with my group. I noticed that I am more willing to be vulnerable when only 3 or 4 other members logged in. As a future goal, I must be ready to show and express my emotions to the entire study group. And hopefully, I will be able to do this with larger groups like the whole class or cohort.
